Viu el Teatre presents Estimat Pau Casals, a new documentary theatre production with live music that offers a sensitive and contemporary perspective on the life and legacy of Pau Casals. Written and directed by Alícia Serrat, the show will premiere at the Museu Pau Casals in El Vendrell on Saturday 7 November, coinciding with the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Pau Casals’ birth.

A life told through his letters
Estimat Pau Casals traces the musician’s life through a very special thread: his correspondence.
From his childhood in El Vendrell and his discovery of music to his studies, his travels around the world and his rise as one of the great cellists of the 20th century, the show introduces us to an artist who understood music as a tool for transformation.
But Estimat Pau Casals goes beyond the portrait of a virtuoso musician. The show focuses on the man and his commitment to the values that shaped his life:
PEACE · FREEDOM · HUMAN DIGNITY
Faced with the conflicts of his time, Casals chose to take a stand and became a committed voice in defence of these ideals. Especially during his years in exile, his ethical commitment became an inseparable part of his artistic legacy.

The production combines spoken word and live music in an intimate, close-up format.
WORDS
Pau Casals’ personal and public letters, addressed to friends, family members, artists, intellectuals and political figures, become dramatic material for building a vivid and emotional stage narrative.
LIVE MUSIC
The music, including pieces by Casals and other works connected to his world, is not simply accompaniment; it becomes a narrative voice that enters into dialogue with the words and expands the story.

A production for all audiences, recommended for ages 12 and over, lasting approximately 55 minutes, inviting audiences to discover Pau Casals beyond the myth and reflect on the transformative power of art.

After the premiere, the tour continues
After its premiere at the Museu Pau Casals, Estimat Pau Casals will tour Catalonia from November 2026 to December 2027, including a stop in the Cooltiva’t programme at Teatre Romea in Barcelona. The aim is to continue sharing with diverse audiences the story, music and, above all, Pau Casals’ commitment to peace, freedom and human dignity.
